Sign Language Communication Service inc. (SLCS) & Betsy’s History

SLCS is woman owned and operated by Betsy Ellenbrook. She has been running her business since 1998. Two years before she established her Company, herself and a few deaf women in the community started a Woman’s Club. Betsy was the President and moved to Vice President for the five years it operated. The club had Hearing and Deaf involved in different family activities, ie., picnics and BBQ’s. After that, Betsy started bowling in the deaf bowling league. She was Vice President of that for several years.

Betsy grew up with Deaf Grandparents who have since passed. However, she continued working in the Deaf community by attending college and then working for Nevada Association of the Deaf (NVAD) for many years. In 2005 she was nominated and won the Sign Language Interpreter of the year award from NVAD. In 2005 she was honored by Women of Diversity Productions Inc., which was celebrating 100 years of influence, to be named The Woman Who Shaped Las Vegas. Betsy has her picture with the phrase “Advocate for the Hearing Impaired” placed on their wall.

SLCS’s majority of work is providing interpreting services for Education, Medical, Legal and Convention.
